Slavery is a system under which certain persons are totally deprived of personal freedom and compelled to perform labor or services. Although outlawed in nearly all countries, slavery is still practiced in some parts of the world. The evidence for slavery predates written records. It can be found in almost all cultures and continents. Historically, most slaves were captured in wars but some persons were sold into slavery by their parents, or by themselves, as a means of surviving extreme conditions. Ancient Warfare often resulted in slavery for prisoners and their families. Captives were often considered the property of those who captured them and were looked upon as a prize of war. Those captured sometimes differed in ethnicity, nationality, religion, or race from their enslavers, but often were the same as the captors. The dominant group in an area might take captives and turn them into slaves. The possibility always existed of reversals of fortune at the height of the Roman Empire, when powerful nations fought among themselves, anyone could find himself enslaved.

My friend Josh and Lucas lived near my school. We were good friends and sometimes went to the park in the afternoons. Josh loved to play catch and Lucas and I loved to play hide and seek. Sometimes, Lucas came to my house and we ate pizza and drank orange juice. One-time Josh’s mom baked an apple pie,
and it was delicious!
When school finished, Josh and Lucas traveled to Istanbul, Turkey. They loved Istanbul and its delicious food. They even sailed in a big boat. I did not travel and stayed at home with my family but I had a lot of fun with them. We watched movies, went to the park, learned how to make chocolate cakes with my mom and played lots of video games.

Passion in learning

One of my greatest passions have always been languages, I love the idea of being able to communicate with multiple people, of understanding a little more about their culture through the language they speak, I like the idea of going to a country and being able to myself defend myself, speak and laugh understanding everything that surrounds me. Since I was little I had the opportunity to always study in bilingual schools where they clearly gave me the basis to defend myself, but something that I will always thank in life is that I had teachers during my life who taught me to love not only English but also learning, not only at school but at home, my parents always helped me to see learning as a game, so much so that sometimes my mother to help me study did super fun activities for me to learn in a more dynamic way and not only memory. Thanks to this I have always been very applied in the academic field, I consider myself a self-taught person in my learning, I always seek to go further and that I owe to all the teachers and supports that I have had on my way.

Something that we have really enjoyed doing is our articles on inspiring characters, characters who have gone through difficulties in their lives, but have come forward to be an example to follow for many people.

Movements from the last years: Me too movement

The Me too movement is the name of a movement started virally as a hashtag on social media. It emerged in October 2017 to denounce sexual assault and sexual harassment, following allegations of sexual abuse against American film producer and executive Harvey Weinstein. The phrase, long used in this regard by social activist Tarana Burke, was popularized by actress Alyssa Milano, who encouraged women to tweet their experiences to demonstrate the widespread nature of misogynistic behavior. Since then the hashtag has been used by more than 500,000 people, including many celebrities.
