Parenting in England

Through our research we have found some peculiarities in Europe in terms of parenting, a way of educating children, this is known as intensive parenting and positive parenting. It occurs a lot in Europe and especially in the United Kingdom, today we are going to talk a little about these and how it works and how it helps children. When it comes to raising a child, parents are faced with the dilemma of how much discipline is necessary and when it can become excessive and, as a consequence, counterproductive.

But there is also a different model, a kind of middle ground between the two: «positive parenting», also called positive parenting. This rejects both punishment and permissiveness, and advocates that the child have a certain degree of autonomy and participate in making some decisions, always taking into account what is appropriate for her age and what is the family context.
According to this approach, the adult is still responsible, but in his treatment of the minor there is more communication, respect and appreciation for his feelings, even when he says no. It is the point at which we give a degree of freedom to the children, showing them a good way to live their life without being sharp and in this way not making the child believe that only because of the parents they are adults, they are right , but from a young age they can make good decisions on their own.

The idea is also that hitting or punishing children will not teach them how to handle their own feelings or behave appropriately, it will only educate them to be afraid of the adult’s reaction. When we stop being hunter-gatherers and become farmers, we slowly build a culture of submission, control and search for obedience from childhood, we could relate this analogy of the psychology Maria Tosin with the source of knowledge when it comes to raising children, Showing strength is not what will lead us to have more strength, but showing our vulnerability and teaching our children that we also made mistakes.

Our social and professional life is highly influenced by the experiences of the early years. And an environment with low stress and positive stimuli leads to good development not only mentally but also physically. Respectful parenting will make children, when they grow up, to be respectful to others as well. It is important for parents seeking this middle way of educating their children to understand that a child’s misbehavior is a form of communication for them. Most of the time, it is not personal; that is, the child does not do it to annoy the adult, but because he does not have other emotional resources at that time.
