Mary Temple Gradin is a Colorado State University Zoologist, Ethologist, Professor and Slaughterhouse Designer. She received her Ph.D. in Animal Science from the University of Illinois. She is currently a professor of animal behavior at the University of Colorado. She is also the author of books such as Thinking in Pictures and Interpreting Animals. She is a great advocate for animal welfare, especially animals exploited by the livestock industry. She has reformed slaughterhouses and ranches across the United States in defense of a life and death worthy of the subjects. She believes that welfare measures help the animal exploitation industry to function in a «safe, efficient and profitable» way.
