Story: Solidarity

Good morning, children. Today, I want to introduce you to your new classmate, Simon Trinidad. He comes from a neighboring country, and I hope you welcome him and provide support. Go ahead, Simon Trinidad, and take a seat at that desk! The classmates looked at him but didn’t greet him. A little girl sitting in front of him said, «Hi, my name is Nadia! If you want, after the class, I can explain to you what you need to do!» The teacher scolded Nadia to pay more attention. The whole group immediately went, «Ahhhh!» Nadia simply ignored them, and the teacher silenced them.

Once the class was over, Nadia approached Simon Trinidad and explained everything they had done and the pending tasks. She also offered to lend him notebooks and books. Some classmates approached them and said, «Hey, Nadia! Have you already fallen in love?» She ignored them again. Seeing no response from Nadia, they decided to tease Simon Trinidad, «Hey Simon, the silly one!» The boy ignored them, but Nadia told Simon, «Learn my motto, ‘the one who calls another foolish is foolish.’ What others say to you is a reflection of what they have inside.» The annoyed children retorted, «Hey you, Nadie (Nobody)! Why are you talking if you don’t exist?» Nadia looked at Simon and said, «When you are important and significant, others engage with you, either positively or negatively. There’s a saying that goes, ‘the way you treat others is how you’ve been treated in your life, especially in the family!'» The boy reacted with a loud laugh and replied, «I’ve had everything, money, trips, luxuries – I get whatever I want!» Nadia simply looked at Simon Trinidad and said, «Tell me what you boast, and I’ll tell you what you lack. Material things we can have, but affection and love are priceless.» She took Simon Trinidad’s hand and said, «Let’s go to a quiet place!» And they left, not without another child saying, «What a bother to have a name like a fool or a church!» They simply left without saying a word.

When they reached a safe area, Simon Trinidad thanked Nadia. «Look, Simon, my mother always tells me that we should ignore people who want to hurt us. They are people who are very afraid, they suffer, or they want to get back at how badly they live. A person filled with values is positive and has rewarding connections. So, I’ll be supporting you, and if we ever face more significant difficulties, we talk to the teachers or coordinators, and as a last resort, with our families, who will always support us.» Simon Trinidad looked at her with a smile and said, «Thank you for your solidarity with me!» From that moment on, they became the best of friends, and their friendship was so strong that no one dared to disrespect them ever again.
