Story: Well-being

Story about Values: Well-being

It was a sunny day, and everything looked radiant in the greenhouse of medicinal aromatic plants, each more beautiful and vibrant than the other. Each plant felt proud because it had its own colors, aromas, flavors, and significant benefits. The day before, they had brought a very large lemon balm, and each aromatic wanted to impress it. So, as always, chamomile, one of the most beautiful, spoke up: «Mr. Lemon Balm, I am chamomile, and I have many uses. I am a laxative, emollient, anti-inflammatory, stimulating tonic, antispasmodic, sedative, antiallergic, and vermifuge.»

Upon hearing this, Lemon Balm smiled and found chamomile not only beautiful but also friendly. A somewhat jealous rosemary, not wanting to fall behind after what his beloved chamomile had done, wanted to present himself to downplay chamomile’s introduction. With a thunderous voice, like thunder, he said, «I am rosemary, and my functions and properties are many: I serve for cholesterol, headache, depression, help control loss of appetite and colic. They consider me a diuretic and antioxidant, granting me properties for memory, as an antiparasitic, insecticide, disinfectant. I am used for the treatment of alopecia and ulcers.»

Everyone fell silent at so much talent on display and a bit stunned by that voice, which, beyond producing pleasure, was somewhat intimidating. Besides, on such a sunny day, everyone thought that voice was more suitable for a day of thunder and lightning. Faced with this unexpected silence, the wise Mallow spoke up, as always: «Well, since everyone is presenting themselves so effusively and talking about their abilities and talents, I suppose it’s to make them available to others and not out of ego. Let me tell you about my qualities and uses: I am diuretic and emollient. They use me in infusions for asthma, bronchitis, colds, flu, cystitis, oliguria, constipation, obesity, fires, vaginitis, blepharitis, and conjunctivitis. I am considered a stimulant for the body’s defenses and have anti-inflammatory properties.»

When she finished, she turned even greener with embarrassment, considering that she had displayed too many of her gifts. Then, the imprudent lemongrass spoke, but no less generous in benefits. «Oh, Mrs. Mallow! How beneficial you are. That’s why I’m by your side. Well, stop talking so much,» said Mallow. «Now, introduce yourself.»

«Of course,» said lemongrass. «I am lemongrass, and they tell me I’m good for everything. Also, because of my youth, I have a great flavor. I am used for rheumatism and flu-like conditions, cardiovascular problems, as an antihypertensive, antispasmodic, anti-asthmatic, antifungal, antibacterial, diaphoretic, expectorant, anxiolytic, for problems of hepatic digestive insufficiency, cellulite, as an anti-inflammatory, sedative, and vasodilator.»

Everyone was surprised at so many virtues, and immediately, as always, he involved his childhood friend Dill. Lemongrass said, «Dill, before you, ta-da! Dill,» as he already imagined, was more prepared than mallow water, and without further ado, he said, «I am Dill. Usually, my uses are anthelmintic, diuretic, appetizer, for colic management, help reduce sugar levels, help lower blood pressure, increase lactation, antibacterial, and used in infected wounds. I smile and say humbly, «But really, from the heart, I don’t have as many properties as you, but I’m happy to be useful to humanity.»

«Of course, Dill, you’re very useful!» said Parsley, the great conciliator of the group. «I am parsley, nice to meet you. I hope you like this greenhouse, and may you produce so many offspring that we can share for a long time. Look, let me tell you that I collaborate with urinary infections. I have diuretic action, prevent and treat bad breath. I am emollient and antipruritic. I clean wounds and ulcers. I am a healing agent, assist in childbirth and menstruation, and my root tones physical exhaustion. Well, my duties are not many, but I feel happy to offer benefits to others. With what I have and am, it is enough.»

«How can I not love you?» said Mustard. «You’re a gem, Parsley.» Mustard continued, «Mr. Lemon Balm, pleased to meet you,» and Lemon Balm protested, «Oh, please! Just call me Lemon Balm, one more friend.» Mustard, in all its tenderness and love, said, «If you say so, as you command,» and smiled. «Look, I help purify, am emollient, expectorant, sudorific, decongestant, astringent, diuretic, diaphoretic, refreshing,
